The British rock band Coldplay will be performing in India in January 2025. Initially, what was supposed to be a two-day tour in Mumbai was later extended to a three-day tour due to huge demand. The concert will take place at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21.
A lot has happened since the tour was officially announced a couple of days ago. While a section of fans who secured tickets has been expressing their euphoria, another section is weighing their options to watch their favourite band perform outside of India. The nearest dates and venue for the Coldplay concert, other than India, happens to be Abu Dhabi, and, unsurprisingly, Indian fans flocked in huge numbers to Ticketmaster—the official ticketing platform for tickets in the GCC.
Aside from its proximity to India, the tickets are also priced similarly to those in India. For example, a standard ticket for the concert costs around 195 AED, which is close to Rs 4,500. The price range goes from this to a maximum of AED 1,495, which is approximately Rs 35,000.
The visa requirements for Abu Dhabi are much easier to navigate, which is another prime reason for this move by fans. Many on the internet even shared a calculated budget of a minimum of Rs 1.7 lakh for two people for a 5-7 day stay in the Middle East if they chose to attend the concert there. Extended vacation + concert = a great deal.
With everyone directing their attention to Abu Dhabi, demand skyrocketed to the point that Coldplay announced additional concert dates in the region as well. Abu Dhabi now has four concert dates compared to three in India. Coldplay will perform on January 9, 11, 12, and 14, 2025, in Abu Dhabi.
Given that Abu Dhabi is the only place in the Middle East where Coldplay is hosting their tour, it naturally becomes the hotspot. However, to much dismay, fans faced similar issues with lining up in queues on Ticketmaster for Coldplay tickets in Abu Dhabi. VJ Nikhil Chinappa was one of the few celebrities who shared his experience securing tickets for the Abu Dhabi concert.
After Abu Dhabi and India, the next Coldplay concert will be in Hong Kong, followed by Seoul, South Korea. Due to the huge demand, more dates were announced in Seoul. Keeping that in mind, fans are awaiting more dates to be announced in India as well.
While the demand for a Coldplay concert refuses to die down, rumours have been circulating that an Ahmedabad concert is likely to be announced at the NAMO Stadium. However, there has been no movement on this front so far.
In the meantime, fans can keep an eye out for the Infinity Tickets for the India concert, which will go live on November 22.
Amid all the controversy surrounding the concert tickets, scalpers, and exorbitant ticket rates, BookMyShow—the official ticketing platform—has filed a case against scalpers and clarified multiple times that tickets bought from third-party apps may not be valid. They have also confirmed that the Coldplay concert will continue as planned, quashing rumours of cancellation following the uproar.
Meanwhile, Coldplay released their tenth album, Moon Music, this October. They also mentioned their intention to retire from making new music after their twelfth album but will continue touring.
The British band consists of four members—Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion—and is often considered to have a fifth member in their manager, Phil.
